If your motorhome, camper or van suffers from rear end sag, Custom Campers have developed an assister that will lift the back of your vehicle. These are a very heavy duty pair of coil springs fitted between the axle and chassis. They are not like other brands. These will not wear, break or weaken. Fitting can be done by ourselves or customers can fit the kit themselves. We do supply a D.I.Y kit but they are custom made to fit your vehicle so they do need someone who knows what they are doing to fit them. The fitting instructions are shown on this website. These will fit Talbot Express, Ford Transit and Bedford CF and more. Please see photos below of before and after. These were fitted to my own Talbot Express motorhome back in 2009 and it still sits at the same height now it did then.

Motorhomes& Campers.
The rear end of motorhomes and campers do suffer with the weight of all the equipment on board, the vehicle and leaf springs were never designed to have the constant weight sitting over the axle. The reason for the leaf springs weakening is that the vehicles were originally a commercial vehicle and loading and unloading of weight would not have been constantly over the axle.
LGV. Vans
Sometimes when a van is fully loaded to it Maximum weight the rear can look very saggy and over loaded. With spring assisters they will keep the rear end at a reasonable height and the drive will be much better for long distance deliveries. They do not make the vehicle carry more weight over the legal weight loading of the vehicle.
Recovery Trucks and Transporters
If your truck is a home conversion or from new, again the leaf springs wear and with the centre of gravity being higher up due to a car loaded on the rear it can feel unstable. When our kits are fitted to a Car Transporter the ride will be quite ridget when empty. But when loaded it will sit roughly at the height when unloaded.
Horseboxes.
When the horsebox is empty there is less weight constantly sitting over the axle, but when loaded and if the leaf springs are weakening, again this can feel unstable.
Why Coil Assisters and not fit new leaf springs?
After years of research designing our assister kit I came to the conclusion that coil spring assisters were a much more economical way to go than replacing leaf springs. I will use my own motorhome as an example: To replace both leaf springs with new (so called) heavy duty springs, (bear in mind there's no point in replacing with the same load rating springs or you might as well do the job again in a few years time) proved expensive. The heavy duty leaf springs were priced at £435 each (2009 prices), fitting them could be tricky as bolts need to be replaced as you can bet they would snap or wouldn't move. U bolts have to be replaced with new at £60 a set. I added the cost up to replace the leaf springs at around £1,100. Following this research I then designed our coil spring assisters which are less than half the price and easy to fit, thus solving the problem and proving you do not need to fit new leaf springs.

We also manufactor many parts
and panels that are no longer avaiable.
In 2008 we designed and developed a coil spring assister that could be fitted under a motorhome to help with weak leaf springs. In 2004 I bought some spring assisters from a company which didn't do the job very well and after two years and after 15kmiles I discovered 3 of the 4 springs had snapped. I decided to design and custom make a kit that would not weaken, snap or have to be replaced in a few years. I fitted my first coil assister kit on my Talbot motorhome in 2006, I did two years of touring and all was ok, no faults at all. But I always knew I could make the kit better so in 2009 I fitted a new design kit. its now 2023 and I still have the motorhome and the kit is still fitted with the same springs and still sits at the same height it did in 2009.
Our kits are very strong and can be quite heavy but they are made to last, Please see the photos below. One customer commented that they would see out the life of any motorhome. If you decide on the D.I.Y kit, the kit comes with full fitting instructions and can be fitted within 4 hours. Tools needed are 17mm & 10mm spanner, two trolley jacks & a 10 & 6mm drill bit. Everything else is pre drilled and ready to be bolted into place.

All Talbot express, Fiat Ducato & Citroen models are all the same set up regarding the leaf springs. However on some motorhomes you may have a water tank or waste tank in the way of the kits cross member. This is not problem as we can make the kit without the cross member. If your not sure please contact us for a chat.If you are looking at fitting one of our kits on a Camper or motorhome please check that there is nothing like a water tank fitted directly above the axle as that is where the kit sits. If you do have a water tank we do a special kit which locates in different position.

Mercedes Sprinters from 1996 to 2018 and Pre Sprinters 308 etc all have the same leaf spring set up. If your Mercedes is LWB, SWB we have a kit to fit. After some years of having the weight sat over the rear of these vehicles. The leaf springs start to bend the opposite direction to the way they should.

Renault Taffic Mk1 is a different kit to the Master model. The Master / Movano Mk1 is a different kit to the Mk 2 and Mk3 After some years of having the weight sat over the rear of these vehicles. The leaf springs start to bend the opposite direction to the way they should. With this kit there is no X member, the kit slots onto the chassis directly above the axle.
Please note, if your unsure you have a Mk2 or a Mk3, the Mk2 has a round axle and the Mk3 has a square axle.

Bedford CF from 1972 > 1986 are all leaf spring on the rear. The SWB & LWB single wheel and double wheel are a slighlty different kit. Please let us know before ordering.
If you choose to fit yourself the job should take you roughly 2 hours. You will need a selection of spanners and sockets up to 17mm. Two trolley jacks, Angle grinder and a 3mm ,7mm & 10mm drill bit. Full, easy to follow instructions will be supplied which must be read before fitting. Any problems or if you're not quite clear on something please give us a call on 07543058985, alway happy to help. The example I use to see if you are capable of doing this job is: If you can fit a starter motor on your vehicle you could very easily fit the kit.

Our workshop is set on a working farm which also has B&B at very reasonable rates. Please let us know either way and we can make arrangements for you. We dont do fittings at weekends. Thanks for your assistance. I have got back from hols and found a
"proper" workshop. The geezer understood the job, gave me a decent
price, read the bumf and studied cd. Now fitted and no need to come
to get done up your way.. Don't really have time to go up there in
near future anyway, notwithstanding your enticing hints at good
angling spots around your area. Perhaps next year .. anyway....

We bought a 1990 Talbot motorhome, which had worn out leaf springs. We were dismayed to find out the cost of replacing
the leaf springs, so we had a trawl on the Internet to see if there were any better prices. We didn't expect to find any better solutions (as well as a much better price) when we came across Simons
site and his spring assistors!
Simon booked us in promptly and when we arrived he showed us the kits and carefully talked us through his design and the fitting. He was a complete mine of information, and a fabulous guy to
deal with. They were fitted within a couple of hours and the results were immediately eyecatching on how much better the back end of the motorhome stood.
These spring assistors are amazing. The ride is comfortable, steering and handling is easier, and of course the motorhome no longer slumps down. Add to this, the likelyhood that they will
still be going strong for the rest of the motorhomes life, unlike leaf springs. We also saved ourselves a fortune on buying and fitting new Talbot leaf springs instead.
